History

School of Behavioural Sciences was established in the year 2006 as teaching department offering M. Sc Clinical & Counselling Psychology programme with an intake of 15 students and later increased to 20 students per batch.

The official inauguration of the department and the M Sc programme in Clinical and Counselling Psychology was on 6th September 2006. Dr. Chandra Mohan, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Kannur University delivered the inaugural address. Prof.K.Kunhikrishnan, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Abdur Rasheed, Regsitrar, Syndicate members were also present during the function.

The department was established as a full time research centre , since 2007. From the past thirteen years, department has contributed active and passionate psychologists and researchers to the society. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded in such way that the students will get hands on training at an international standard and to meet the needs of the current scenario. Apart from these, department carried out collaborative programmes with National Rural Health Mission, Kerala State AIDS Control Society, Janamaithri Suraksha Project, LSG departments etc.. The extension activities of the department offer counseling and psychotherapy services to the students and to the public.
